Teaching
The following courses are currently included in my graduate teaching responsibilities. EDSE 611, EDSE 503-504, and EDSE 605 are offered through the Department of Secondary Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta.
Phenomenological Research and Writing
This graduate research course offers an exploration of methodological themes of hermeneutic phenomenological inquiry into the inexhaustible variety of lifeworld topics.
Human Science Research. EDSE 611 is a weekly course comprising two academic terms, normally from early September to mid-April.
Curriculum Foundations and Inquiry
In these two courses approaches are offered to understanding concepts, discourses, and practices of curriculum, teaching, and pedagogy. In 503 the focus is on foundational dimensions of the field and 504 explores inquiry approaches such as ethnography, narrative inquiry, concept analysis, critical pedagogy, postmodern deconstructive inquiries, gender theory, hermeneutic phenomenology, and other relevant heuristics that have consequences for curriculum and teaching.
Curriculum and Pedagogy. EDSE 503-504 consist of two sequenced courses, normally offered during fall and/or winter terms.
Seeing Cinema Pedagogically
In this course we make a study of pedagogical theories and practices. Pedagogy involves the ability of actively and reflectively distinguishing what is appropriate from what is less appropriate in our interactions with children or young people. Pedagogical concepts and understandings are explored through cinematographic and scholarly sources.
Studies in Pedagogy. EDSE 605 is offered during the second term from early January to mid-April.
